Last Friday’s District Training with Darcy
The Interventionists in attendance went to the following training sessions last Friday and talked about how it went:
Jen – 6 Minute Solutions; Jen is just beginning to use the 6 Minute Solution.
Shonya – 6 Minute Solutions, Leveled Literacy, and Quick Reads
Gloria – Did not attend
Chris – 6 Minute Solutions, Leveled Literacy, and Soar to Success
The feedback on the training from last Friday was that it was very good. They said that Darcy is a big fan of leveled literacy but it requires a 40 minute block and there are only 3 kits in the building. The orange kit is the primary kit. The green and blue kits are in Sue Bailey’s office. There is a CD-ROM that goes with the materials. You have to print out everything that you need prior to beginning to implement the leveled literacy.
Chris had a question about how to use the passages in the 6 Minute Solutions program. Billie recommended that you use them for fluency at first. Then bring the same passage back out to use for reading comprehension the following day or two.
Soar to Success has been set up in Grade 5. It can be used in Grades 3, 4, and 5.
Future Meetings and Support Needs
Billie talked about having a standing meeting with the Interventionists. She’d like to meet every Friday in January from 2:30-3:00 PM. Then we will meet every other week starting in February. These meetings will be opportunities to receive training and resources and to network and share with each other.

TO DO’s and Concerns
Christie asked that everyone start a professional log of the training that they are attending. The form is stored on the X drive and Billie will email the log to all of the interventionists.
The Staff Lounge, Room 6, and the Library has computers available for the Interventionists to use.
Jen needs a username and password to login on the network.
Gloria is having difficulty accessing email and the X drive.
Billie is looking for additional after school staff. Please let her know if you are interested.
Billie will copy the grid which aligns the literacy levels for all of the Interventionists.
Questions
Q: If the students have met the grade level benchmark in fluency, will they be pulled out of the Interventionists’ fluency groups that they are servicing?
A: If they have met the fluency benchmark, they will likely need support in reading comprehension so the Interventionists will continue working with them, just with a different focus.
